Park Weir & Solar

Park Weir
water power

A New Project!

Following the successful construction and commissioning of Congleton Hydro at Havannah Weir, more commonly known as “ARCHIE”, the team behind it have secured grant funding to develop a brand new renewable energy scheme. This time the goal will be to generate power from both hydro and solar sources. The hydro scheme will be located beside the weir near Congleton Park. The solar arrays will be positioned on the roofs of suitable private and public buildings around Congleton.

Apart from generating carbon-free energy, the scheme will provide a focal point for promoting sustainability within the community and an educational resource.

Climate Change Emergency, We Must Fight On!

💡 Feasibility Study Grant Awarded by Regional Community Energy Fund (supported by BEIS/DEFRA)

💡 Project combines Hydroelectric Generation and Solar Photo-Voltaic elements – CARBON FREE

💡 Initial negotiations held with Cheshire East Council

💡 All Surplus Funds will be allocated to Community Projects

Fantastic strides have already been made in moving this work forward under the administration of a newly formed independent CBS (Dane Valley Community Energy – Congleton Park (DVCE-CP) Ltd. This new CBS will be financially and administratively independent of DVCE Ltd.

Progress has also been made with the proposed 50kW hydro project located on the river Dane in Congleton Park. This scheme should produce about 200MWh annually. A briefing paper has been presented by DVCE-CP to the Cheshire East Council who owns the land on which the scheme is to be located.
